Geologic Setting

Marte Valles is a very young (Amazonian) outflow channel that flows 1,300 km from Elysium to Amazonis Planitia. Channel deposits locally embay ridged plains and ancient crustal material. Very young (Amazonian) lava flows lie to the northeast.

Scientific Rationale

Objectives

Amazonian age channel laid deposits (Ach, Achp), ridged volcanic plains (Hr) which is one of the most extensive units on the surface, erosional remnants (HNu) of ancient cratered terrain and Amazonian lava flows (Aa4) which are among the youngest on the surface.
